Specialists

Single-coat, through-coloured render applied by specialist contractors serving Wigan, Manchester, Bolton and across North West England. No painting. Ever.

What Is Monocouche Render?

Monocouche (from the French for 'single coat') is a factory-mixed, through-coloured render that is applied in a single coat directly to the external wall substrate. Unlike traditional sand and cement render, which requires a separate paint finish, monocouche render is pigmented throughout - so the colour runs through the full depth of the material.

This has a significant practical advantage: there's no paint film to fade, peel, or crack. The appearance of the render is maintained by the material itself, not by a surface coating that requires periodic renewal.

Monocouche render is widely used across the UK and Europe, and it's particularly well-suited to the North West's climate. Its dense, polymer-modified composition provides excellent resistance to driving rain and moisture ingress, while remaining vapour-permeable so that any moisture within the wall can escape.

Through-Colour Technology

The pigment is mixed throughout the render material, not applied as a surface coat. This means the colour is never lost through weathering, and minor surface scuffs or marks are virtually invisible.

Wide Colour Range

Monocouche render is available in a wide range of colours - from traditional off-whites and creams to contemporary greys and earth tones. We'll help you choose a colour that suits your property and the surrounding streetscape.

Benefits of Monocouche Render
for Manchester Properties

Exceptional Weather Resistance

Monocouche render is specifically formulated to withstand the persistent damp and driving rain that characterises the North West climate. Its dense, through-coloured composition repels water while remaining breathable.

No Painting Required

Because the colour runs through the full depth of the coat, there's no surface paint to fade, peel, or chip. Your home keeps its colour year after year without any repainting maintenance.

Minimal Maintenance

Monocouche render is designed to be a long-term, low-maintenance solution. An occasional rinse with a garden hose is typically all that's needed to keep it looking its best.

Long Service Life

When correctly applied to a properly prepared substrate, monocouche render can last 20 to 30 years or more. It's a genuine long-term investment in your property.

How We Apply Monocouche Render

01
Step 01

Survey & Specification

We visit your property to assess the substrate, discuss colour and texture options, and confirm the appropriate specification for your monocouche render installation.

02
Step 02

Preparation & Repair

All loose or failing material is removed and the substrate is thoroughly prepared. Any cracks, gaps or areas of concern are repaired before the new render is applied.

03
Step 03

Beading & Detailing

Render beads are fixed at all corners, reveals, and junctions to ensure clean, precise lines and protect the edges of the render from impact and weathering.

04
Step 04

Scratch Coat (if required)

On some substrates, a scratch coat is applied first to provide a consistent, stable base for the monocouche render. This is assessed on a property-by-property basis.

05
Step 05

Monocouche Application

The monocouche render is applied in a single coat to the specified thickness. It is then worked to achieve the chosen texture - typically scraped, roughcast, or smooth.

06
Step 06

Curing & Handover

The render is allowed to cure fully before we carry out a final inspection. We'll walk you through the completed work and provide documentation for your guarantee.

Monocouche render is available in a wide range of colours, from traditional off-whites and creams to contemporary greys, buff tones and earth colours. We'll show you samples during your survey so you can choose a colour that complements your property.
Monocouche render is typically applied at 15–20mm in a single coat. This is thicker than thin coat systems, which gives it excellent weather resistance and durability.
All renders can develop hairline cracks over time, particularly if the substrate moves. However, monocouche render is formulated to be flexible and resistant to cracking. Proper preparation of the substrate before application is the most important factor in preventing cracking.
When correctly applied to a properly prepared substrate, monocouche render can last 20–30 years or more. It's a genuine long-term investment in your property's appearance and protection.
In most cases, we recommend removing existing render before applying a new system. This allows us to inspect the substrate, address any underlying issues, and ensure the new render bonds correctly. We'll advise you on this during your free survey.
No - this is one of monocouche render's key advantages. The colour runs through the full depth of the coat, so there's no surface paint to fade, peel or chip. Your home keeps its colour year after year without any repainting.
